Not a problem at all! :D I LOVE to study the props and costumes from LOTR, it's positively my favorite pastime. Please do hold on to that avatar, it looks great. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy has been out on DVD since 2003, I highly recommend it; It comes in three parts, 'The Fellowship of the Ring', 'The Two Towers' and 'The Return of the King', as do the books by J.R.R Tolkien. Do you recognize the title 'The Hobbit'? This is the prequel to LOTR, so store that little nugget of info in the back of your mind for the next six years or so and you may just see a movie by the same title! :D
I see. Don't worry, I can take a joke! ;) The costume you shopped yourself into is from The Lord of the Rings (you probably already had an idea of that). The helmet, although very stylized in your photo, is a replica of the 'third age' elves helmet from the battle of Helm's Deep. It was probably designed wholly or partly by Alan Lee and constructed by Weta Workshop: (http://www.alleycatscratch.com/lotr/Elf/ElfArmor/Third.htm)
The broach however, is from the character Gandalf, a wizard. In fact, it is not a broach at all, only two belt buckles fastened together when there was a call for an unusual ornament to be added to Gandalf's white robes. This type of thing happened more than once on the set. I think it's fantastic! (http://www.noblecollection.com/catalog/product.cfm?id=NN9651&catid=17)
I do not recognize the cloak; the design, texture and color is not familiar. I believe it was bought from an unrelated source, since this costume is not made up of original props, but cosplay. :) Other than that, it should be considered a crime to mix up LOTR with HP! *laughs* They are so different! Thanks for the info, I hope I've filled you in just a bit! ~Luthien
...I hope you're joking, because I work for a website that's chock full of the kind of thing. It's ok, wasn't important. I can find detail shots elsewhere. Thanks! :)
Hello! I hope you don't mind me being nosey, but I have a question about your ID pic. I realize it's a photo manip, but the costume is too cool! I see Gandalf's broach and I know where that came from, but where oh where did you find that picture of the Third Age Elves' helmet? :O Although the design is not replicated, the shape is just right! It's gorgeous! The cloak is also a beauty. As a costumer who was once intending to replicate the third age Armour, I am very interested, please let me know! :)
Thanks for the compliment on my pictures! I'm a student when I'm not sketchfu-ing. I'm actually making my way over to your side of the country (UofT) for my MA in linguistics this summer : )
