Overcoming a fear story
Izumi yawned loudly and sat up in bed. She glanced around sleepily and checked her clock, “four o’clock…Well I sure slept in” she muttered as she stood up and slowly made her way to her closet. What to wear, what to wear? Hmmm, she thought. After a few moments Izumi grabbed a t-shirt she had ‘barrowed’ from a friend a long while ago that said “rawr.” Izumi loved that shirt because if rawr was a word it would definitely be her favorite. For her pants she just settled on a pair of jeans that was lying on her bedroom floor and quickly went to the kitchen. “Now I know I have something planned for today but…what was it?” she asked herself, opening the refrigerator and grabbing an orange. She sat down at the table and began to peel the Orange, trying to remember what she was supposed to be doing. Izumi looked up as the doorbell rang; “come in!” she called. The door opened and her friends all came into the house.
“Izumi, honestly what time did you wake up this morning? You’re not even ready to go!” Aya said, practically glaring at her. Oh! The amusement park! Izumi thought, she quickly stood up and ran to the bathroom to comb her hair.
“Sorry you guys! I completely forgot!” she apologized. Once Izumi was done combing her hair she smiled at herself in the mirror, “alright! Ready to go!” she said grabbing her IPod and heading for the door. Her friends, Aya, Yuu, and Inari followed her out. Izumi and everyone piled into Yuu’s car and started for the amusement park. Alright I’ll be fine, after all it’s not like they can’t force me to ride a roller coaster or anything…maybe they won’t even want to go on, she thought to herself as she watched trees and buildings flash by out the window.
“Hey maybe we can ride that new roller coaster!” Inari said excitedly. WHAT?! Can she read minds or something? Izumi glanced suspiciously at Inari before laughing quietly and shaking her head.
“Not possible” she muttered under her breath.
“What isn’t possible?” Yuu asked, looking at Izumi from the rear view mirror. His abnormally great hearing is gonna get him in trouble one day, Izumi thought.
“Oh nothing” Izumi said, smiling and kicking the back of his seat just to bug him. Yuu raised an eyebrow, which almost wasn’t noticeable because his silver coloured hair almost covered his eyes. One day the news is gonna say ‘four teenagers die in car crash because driver is too lazy to get a stupid hair cut and can’t see the road!’ Izumi laughed again at the idea and leaned back against her seat. The fact that on one had responded to Inari’s suggestion helped calm Izumi down a bit. Yuu parked the car in the parking lot and everyone got out.
“Alright, to the rides!” Inari said running off with Aya close behind. Yuu and Izumi followed more slowly but for both different reasons. Izumi was too nervous about the roller coasters while Yuu really wasn’t into the whole ‘amusement park and having fun’ thing.
“So you know Inari is going to want you to go on every ride with her,” Yuu brushed his hair out of his eyes as he spoke, “what are you gonna do when she tries to get you to go on a roller coaster?” Izumi looked at him and smiled nervously.
“What are you hinting at? That I’m afraid of roller coasters or something?” she said, trying to laugh casually, “’cause I’m not! I love roller coasters!” Yuu smiled and sighed, shaking his head. Izumi sat down on a bench and watched Inari and Aya argue about something that probably wasn’t important anyway. She pulled her hair into a ponytail and turned to look up at a roller coaster. The line to get on seemed to go on forever, “maybe Inari won’t want to go on ‘cause of the line” she said, putting her head phones on and turning on what she thought was one of the best songs in the world ‘Re_Cycle’ by Megurine Luka. Yuu shook his head and pulled Izumi’s head phones off.
“Highly unlikely” he said, taking the IPod away and putting it in his pocket. “This is socializing time. No music allowed” he explained. Izumi pouted and stood up then began to walk toward Inari and Aya. She grabbed Inari’s arm and pulled her aside
“Inari, I cannot go on that roller coaster with you. It just too frightening, ok?” she said, frowning and putting her hands in the front pockets of her jeans. Inari shook her head and frowned
“No! You have to. Please, please, please?” she begged, trying to look innocent and cute which never was very hard for her. Inari would always use those cute eyes of her to make her friends do whatever she wanted. Izumi, like always, was taken in by the act.
“A-alright I’ll try…” she said. But was already scared out of her mind just thinking about it. Inari squealed with joy and practically dragged Izumi to the line for the roller coaster. Aya followed but Yuu stayed where he was. Lucky, Izumi thought. No one was ever able to persuade Yuu to do something he didn’t want to do. Izumi watched as the roller coaster went around and almost felt sick. After what felt like forever they were at the front of the line and Izumi was still scared. Actually scared wasn’t even the correct word, it was more like terrified. Izumi let out a deep breath and turned around. “S-s-sorry you guys. I can’t” she stuttered and practically ran back to the bench she had been sitting at before. Yuu waved and Ice cream cone in front of her face
“Want some?” he asked, grinning. Izumi glared at him and shook her head
“Not really, I’d just throw it up anyway” she muttered, wiping sweat off her forehead. Yuu shrugged.
“Didn’t go on? It’s not that bad trust me” he said as he stood up and set the ice cream on a nearby table. He grabbed Izumi’s wrist and pulled her up, “c’mon” he said. Izumi tilted her head
“Where are we-?” She shook her head once she realized where they were headed, “No, Yuu! I’m not going on the roller coaster!” she said, trying to pry his fingers off her wrist. Yuu laughed slightly.
“It isn’t as scary as it seems, Izumi, I promise” he said. Izumi glared at him the whole time they were waiting in line in he did a great job of ignoring it. Izumi gulped when they got to the front of the line and were strapped into the seats. She was biting her lip so hard is almost started to bleed and she almost screamed once the ride started. Izumi’s eyes were closed for almost the entire time on the road but once it was she realized Yuu had been right, it really wasn’t that scary. Izumi tried to comb the knots out of her hair with her fingers as she followed Yuu back to the others, “so? Was it scary?” Yuu asked, turning around to look at Izumi. She shrugged
“It was ok” she said and laughed. Yuu rolled his eyes and Inari and Aya ran over to them. Inari stared at Yuu and Izumi suspiciously
“You go on with Yuu but not me? Ok I see how it is” she said, smiling. Izumi blush but everyone else laughed. “Ok how about the haunted house?” Inari suggested. Izumi’s eyes widened,
“What?”
