About Fizzylicious

I'm 199cm tall, slender build. Rather shy.

I'm an aerospace engineer but I have always loved to draw, just needed a little push and an idea to get me started. Sketchfu has provided me with both, so now I'm completely hooked :)

I've been away for a long time now, starting to draw a bit more so if Sketchfu behaves I'd like to come back here again..

Fizzy! So glad to hear from you :) Sketchfu, as you can see, is still having a lag problem ... a lot of the people you used to see here have defected to other drawing sites, like Floating Gingko (me included); there are still a few "loyalists" hanging around, though ... I try to come by once a day just to check in. Don't do much actual drawing here anymore, though. It's sad ... that manic, fun energy we all used to love is gone :P

She thought it was a photo and you only added the Eiffel tower? She must have fallen over when you told her you drew it!!!

about the hair. I never give critiques unless the artist brings something up or asks. I agree there is an issue with the hair. But it is easily fixed. the area around the face, the hair that is the underneath the outer layer of hair part, it is always very dark. It is on the underneath side and never gets as much light. That will help right away. then if you just add some individual hairs and a bit more light and dark areas. in a picture, no one part is less important than another, including the background. the rest of the pic is in perfect focus, except the hair. so it is better to "fake" it for the sake of the drawing then be a slave to the actual photo.

I said this on my Reach draw. At a certain point, your drawing has become a thing. A real thing in reality. At that point you can begin to interact with that thing and it with you. If you are unhappy with any part of a draw ever, then address that concern, even if it means departing from your source which it probably will mean. In my draw I really wanted some kind of fore or background but it just would not work. Hope that was helpful. *L*
gerbear wrote (4 months ago)
Thanks, composition has always been a strong point of mine (and use of color if you had not noticed *L*). That's why I had to dump that stuff on the left, was just too distracting from my original idea.
gerbear wrote (4 months ago)
Hey fizz. did you do this one too? This one really looks like a photo, amazing work!!

Your welcome. Thanks for your kind comments on my drawings. X
Luthien wrote (4 months ago)
Hmmm...yeah, I've never played that one before. Those keyboard-command versions, they drive me insane...it was before my time, I'm afraid. I've played KQI, II and III...KQ IV is still in progress (you see, I play the fan-made versions of the earlier games. I know it doesn't sound it, but they're absolutely beautiful.) Obviously, I've played KQV also...as well as VI (my favorite, I've played the original for years) and VII (a rare curiosity, a lot of people didn't like it). Apparently King's Quest VII killed the business and they had to release KQVIII under a different name, "The Silver Lining".

I know what you mean about finding command options that you didn't know about. *g* It sure makes PC life easier, doesn't it? ;) If you like, I can send you the links to the fan-made games. They're legal since nobody is making money off of them...and they show a ton of artistic talent. But that's only if you have time. ^_^ Once the games get a hold on you, they won't let go until you're completely finished - very unhandy.
Luthien wrote (4 months ago)
Ha ha! Thanks! ^_^ The story of the weeping willow isn't really all that beautiful. Once you return her heart of gold (found only after much rummaging in the evil witch's house and through the haunted forest) and return it to her, she turns back to the human form of a princess. Her prince comes wandering about (convenient) and proceeds to take her back home. Nice. She throws her harp onto the island that she'd once grown on and wanders away without even a thank-you. On the bright side, you gain a harp. *rolls eyes*
shelly39 wrote (4 months ago)
Thank you for your comment on my drawing. Much appreciated. X
Luthien wrote (4 months ago)
Oh...I just figured that since we both could see the problems with it, we could also see it fixed? Sorry if I've become a nuisance already. ^_^; I'm glad you like it better this time...I can understand what you mean about the shadow and I'm glad you pointed it out, but I think it's too small an error to mess with. I'll just be more aware of what I'm doing next time. All I can say at this point is, "thank God it's only a sketch". *laughs* And a cartoon at that. 100% realism is something I never wanted to accomplish (not that I want to use that fact for any sort of excuse on shoddy work). Ha. Anime hair.

Sometimes when I like a picture well enough, I put it in my DeviantArt gallery. It's a nice way to beat down some of the weeds so I'm at least a little recognized when I end up needing the gallery for real.

Hi, Fizzy! :D I took 'Time and Confusion', put it in Photoshop, did some adjustments and was wondering if it could have your approval before I put it anywhere else? http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb261/HHMACHSHOP/FMAPB.jpg It printed out great, I added some extra color to Ed's poor, drained face. *laughs* Fierce lil guy.

Fizz!!! This one is just wonderful too!! very breezy and happy and careful feel to the style and the expression. I love how the background works with the face, bold but does not "overtake" it.

Thanks for the tips. I don't work too much with layers. I had just begun about the time I left 2draw. I find layers too confusing on photoshop but was able to use them on 2Draws program. I loved them so much i did a drawing paying homage to the Layer God *L*

Fizzy, I am SO impressive by your portraits .... you have major talent! They are truly beautiful. I never really think of an engineer having a "softer, gentler" side, capable of such gorgeous art ... but, you do!
Luthien wrote (4 months ago)
Eh he he! Well, that's pretty much what a GameBoy Original IS! XD Aw, but I love any type of GB. I took good care of my GBAdvance...if it weren't for all the new, tantalizing games, it'd seem useless to really get another. I don't need it anyhow, I've been clearing all the classic Legend of Zelda games off the used shelves. They're so fun, really makes me think instead of just a steady flow of killing.

I'm glad you liked the sketch, it was fun. It resembles how I play my Gameboy...though it gets very cramped laying like that after a while. Is he playing Super Mario Land 2? ;)

I know what you mean about 2Draw - I go there sometimes but it seems to have a very 'negative' feel . . . Ginkgo is very different, much friendlier and now we have so many reFUgees it feels more like home everyday.
Xina54 wrote (4 months ago)
Hi Fizzy - yes it should be 'FUtorials' - unfortunately I filled the form out wrongly and I can't change it now . . .
I love your new avatar - although that's not what I expect a 32 year old male areospace engineer to look like;-)
If you want to upload more of your artwork for everyone to see you can do so at

Quite a lot of us from Sketchfu are there now as we are fed up with the lag here.

Wonderful piece of ART Fizzy!!! I really love it!!! The hair is just glorious, the skin perfect, she is very alive, you captured the smile in her eyes. I am very very impressed with it!!! You could do that here, these tools will do it until you hit the lag monster. I wanted to keep going alil bit with my Aragorn portrait but just could not do anymore. If you learn any cool photoshop tricks let me know. Thanks for sharing, this is just beautiful!!!
Luthien wrote (4 months ago)
Ha ha ha... ^_^; Poor Al, so abused. Sorry about the second link, her artwork is guarded very well and rarely shows up on the Internet.

I'm also amazed by skin. It reflects every color of light and yet is still soft-looking. On a lot of cartooning, the reflection of colored light only appears when an intense light source is somewhere close (in the character's hand, above the character's head, etc...) I try to only use that on my own style...I'm not brave enough to try it on any manga or anime characters yet. After all, it's the first time that I've really drawn those two, I don't want to completely mess it up with my 'wonderful skillz'. *g*

I'll try and improve it a bit. It still makes me angry that my monitor won't cooperate, it's brand new! *rawr* New monitors are silly!
Menopaws wrote (4 months ago)
Hi Fizzy! Fantastic portrait ... oh my! I haven't been able to access anyone's profile to respond to comments lately; just wanted to thank you for your kind words. You got food poisoning in China? Not fun! But I envy that you got to go there ... must have been awesome. I'm drawing at Floating Gingko these days ... different tools but a lot of the same friends ... I enjoy it very much but it's not the same as the silliness at sketchfu! I miss the "FU experience" and my friends here.
gerbear wrote (4 months ago)
Fizzy, would love to see the photoshop work. You could upload it as your icon so we could see it. Great that you are doing that. I got to do quite a bit of photoretouch on photoshop recently and got paid for it, it was fun! But i dont know the program like I should.

Would also love to see art based on your trip. I did China in camp one year and we built a hilly landscape and used air dry clay to make the great wall, when all were put together on a big table it looked awesome!

Sorry bout the food poisoning! Tho seeing pictures of some of the markets i am not surprised!
Luthien wrote (4 months ago)
Oh, I see... *ponders* Well, I'm not sure if I should go for the clean, anime style ( http://www.clho.net/anime/fma/FMA.jpg ) or the acrylic paint look of the original artist's work ( http://www.madman.com.au/wallpapers/fullmetal_alchemist_256_1024.jpg ). I know, those are watercolors, but she normally uses acrylics. The style remains, though. Skin color is my bane, I've never had so much trouble with anything except drawing shoulders. I'm glad that somebody else notices, though...kind of makes me wonder what people really see when they look at my art.

I've tried using orange before. It's effective, but easy to overdo - the same with red. Softening up the highlights is a good idea (or not adding them at all). Anyhow, cartoons always look best when they're animated. It's the only thing that can truly breathe life into a cel-shaded character. Actually, Al reminds me a bit of you. ^_^
Luthien wrote (4 months ago)
Oh...dang. Plastic. I don't know what to do to fix that, it's just the way I shade! Maybe I should make the shadows darker next time? *panic panic* Is this an effect that I've been showing for a while now, or is it something new that just popped up?

I re-calibrated my screen, but Sketchfu, my desktop, my laptop, Photoshop and my printer don't agree on any of the colors. Ed did look...uh...dead when I printed the pic. T_T Gaaah... Please help me out here if you can.

Luthien wrote (4 months ago)
Noooo, I think the colors on my monitor are messed up. I using the FMA art book as reference material and the artist uses cel shading...so...that's all the excuse I can offer. Maybe somebody just called him short, Ed hates that. For the record, Al is still human, body or not. :)

I'll take a look at your pretty dragonfly and warrior when I can snag the chance. I need to get off the computer before I shrivel up and die. >_>

I know that the white lines between the bubbles were bothering your engineers mind, so i have put up my reference photo and you can see for yourself that indeed, some bubbles have very white lines inbetween.

I think part of the beauty of art is that it makes us look at ordinary things we might otherwise miss out on. Hope this was helpful. Please post on my profile once you have seen this as I only have it up to show you *S* Hope all is well in your world *S*

thanks so much Fizzy. My architect husband saw it and didn't think they looked like bubbles because they are not round. I showed him my reference photo and my drawing is a very close copy of it *L* I was also surprised to see their shape and those white lines. The reflection was cool tho, each bubble reflected the outdoor scene on the bottom and had the swirly rainbow effect on the top. I learned alot about bubbles!!

Ah, I used to catch the episodes on YouTube, then NarutoTribe, then Veoh, then back to NarutoTribe and finally AnimeEpisodes.net. >_> Maybe not the most honest way to do it, but heck, they are getting their money's worth; I bought the first season last week and intend to find the rest. Veoh used to be the most handy place, but every video that was over ten minutes has now been cut down to five minutes and labled as a 'preview'. Now you have to sign up and download the video to view it. :( NarutoTribe works, but they generally use videos hosted by Veoh also.
