Good to hear you've had such a wonderful time :) Can't wait to see the fruits of your new inspiration..
I'm glad you had such a wonderful time in Alaska; I am sure it was every bit and more exciting and awesome as you described so enthusiastically below. And as I mentioned before, it is great to have you back. You are one of the much-loved and respected SF'er that make this site such a joy!!!

OK...you asked me to tell you the story about how the Goat Club got started...its really quite simple. Something that started as a joke basically escalated to what it is today.

Samy had drawn a really nice picture of a cat lying on its back. Just to razz Samy a little, I commented, to the effect: "...nice goat...". Then I believe I had urged him to draw a goat and he replied to the effect: "...I'll let you draw it, EC".

Shortly thereafter, I drew a picture from Samy's profile picture; I called it NY Dude. This picture actually features a short and sublime 'animation' where Samy dreams he sees a goat---the goat materializes in front of him, then it disappears, when Samy exclaims, "I just dreamed that I saw a Goat!"

Around that time, I was having great difficulty with Sketchfu; most of my drawings wouldn't post and I lost a lot of what I thought were good, meaningful drawings. In absolute furious frustration, I decided to leave the site and left a message for all my friends that I have just about had it with drawings that don't post and that I would possibly be back once they (administrators of SF) resolved the issue.

An unexpected and very touching show of support for me ensued; I received e-mails and posts on my profile and pictures urging me to come back. I finally received a message from Andrew Null that also encouraged me to come back---moreover that some major issues had been resolved; so I decided to come back once again.

Around that time, Samy and I corresponded back and forth via e-mail; I believe we discussed in pretty deep detail about how painful it is to lose drawings that we pour our hearts and souls into. Aside from that Samy went ahead a drew the very FIRST real goat on SF and named him "Joe". (See: http://sketchfu.com/drawing/56201-meet-joe)

Later, this drawing became one of the most viewed drawings in SF history with over 13,000 views!!! Just awesome.

I then sent some messages to a few of my friends to draw goats. The response was incredible. EVERYONE indulged me. I also ended up drawing one myself. Then the thought occurred to me (and I also consulted with Samy on this) to start a "GOAT Club" wherein the only membership requirement was to draw a goat. Simple.

I began soliciting more and more people, adding them to my friends list as I went along. The warm responses I received was the impetus I needed to continue on this quest to try and compile as many goat drawings as possible.

In fact, another thought surfaced: Perhaps this maybe the biggest collection of drawings of goats by different artists??? Hmmmm....something to aspire to, a Guiness record??? I think that it probably stands a good chance because the artists themselves are from around the world. "The largest compilations of drawings of goats by international artists"...hehe; that would be something!!!

Anyway, that is the story. I hope you will draw one soon so I could add it to the growing list. As of now, there are 60 different artists and approximately 70 goat drawings (of course some people couldn't resist drawing just one...hahaha). But if you look at the list, it is a veritable "Who's Who" of Sketchfu regulars. I am so appreciative everyone's collective effort and it has really been such wonderful source of fun for me as well. OK...I goat to go now....see ya later...baaaaaaaaaaa!
Hi EVERYONE!! I am back and inspired and ready to roll!! Thanks for all the well wishes before I left and the welcome backs, you all are the best! I came back to like a zillion drawings!! *laff* Don't you people ever do ANYTHING else? I am very much looking forward to catching up with everyones gallery but it will take a while, weeks maybe...but I will get around to everyone as I love seeing all the new work. due to obvious time constraints, I will look at all and vote and on the most recent draw in your galleries, I will give an overall KUDO for what I know will be awesome work. I am inspired by what I saw and i want to do some offline art work as soon as I can. I might draw here some, sketch some pictures from the trip to work out ideas before actually painting or drawing them offline. But as lily so aptly showed in her "hooked up to a bottle of FU IV" ....I too am hooked already!! I love the community draws and will try to do those when I can. If anyone sees me here too much in the daytime (USA central time)...please tell me to get offline *laughing* Anyhow...it was an incredible trip and I never left the windows of the cruise ship. I saw whales and an eagle and porpoises and a herd of GOATS (yes EC) from the floatplane ride we took and saw a big black bear, will draw him if I can. I saw salmon spawning, that was a lifelong dream of mine! I saw the END OF A RAINBOW!!! I saw where it literally rose out of the ocean right in front of me,...I have a pic to prove it! No gold there, unless you count PURE AWE as gold. I do. *smile* Saw lots of wonderful Native Alaskan art that I could not afford, dang it!! And Vancouver was wonderful too! Now to paint it all!!
