Here they are, just 7 months later holding their darling little baby girl Martha Anne. It seems like mother nature already knew of the financial windfall Claire was going to receive and so, a baby was on the way when they got married "officially" the second time.
Joy is the main feeling they both felt when they weren't experiencing terror and tiredness. A baby was a whole new world. She didn't come with an instruction manual, so they had to figure it out as they went along. Sleep deprived but happy, things began to fall into place for both of them.
They found a starter home on a quiet tree lined street. Claire took maternity leave from her job in the 8th month of pregnancy. She wasn't planning on returning. She'd rather stay home, care for her child, get to know her neighbors, visit her family and do all the things new mothers do.
Gregg graduated and immediately found the position he'd dreamed of landing so many times. The starting salary was impressive, but so were the expectations of the job. He knew he could do it, plus they'd saved a portion of the inheritance from Aunt Martha to invest. They had the nest egg they always wanted.
Of course, with a new baby, they had to think of her future as well.
The times they cuddled in bed falling asleep in each other's arms were farther and farther apart. Claire would be up at night feeding the baby, and then she'd fall asleep in the rocking chair, only to wake up later when she heard the alarm go off. Gregg would already be in the shower when she slipped back into bed to catch a few more winks.
There was a little more space between them. It was subtle, but they both felt it and they missed each other without knowing how to express it.
Baby Martha Anne was claiming her space. And you know what they say, don't you:
"Anything under two feet tall or two years, owns the room."
Martha's nice. Any good, solid, old-fashioned name ... they withstand the test of time. Sara, Amy, Elizabeth, Anne. Other suggestions? Nothing trendy! Martha Anne? Martha Elizabeth?
