Come on Suki let's go play while mom's away!” yipped Akarui, playfully she pawed at Suki's side. “Are you sure that's a good idea?” Suki nervously whispered. “Don't worry! We will be back before mom gets back” Akarui nudged Suki before bounding out of the burrow. She could feel her paws quiver as the cold air hit her fur and the soft grass wedged between her paws. “I'm coming, slow down!” shouted Suki. Akarui stopped and waited until her sister padded up next to her out of breath. “So where are we going anyway?” Suki gasped. “To the big ledge!” Akarui said eyes sparkling “I hope your not talking about the ledge that Mom told us not to go near!” Akarui didn't answer before bounding through the tall grass that led to the great ledge. Fighting her way through the last bit of grass Akarui's mouth gaped open as she saw the large stone ledge before her. “Stop running off like that!” Suki panted. “Come on let's play tag, I'm it!” Akarui ran out onto the right side of the rock, and mockingly stuck out her tongue “what's wrong? You chicken?” Suki's fur stuck up “ I'm not!” Suki nervously ran to the other side. “Ready, set, go!” Akarui yipped and ran straight for Suki. They played restlessly unaware of how close they were to the edge. Suki now trapped saw Akarui about to pounce on her but quickly she ducked. Unable to stop Akarui sent herself flying over the edge. Suki screamed, and Akarui could feel the wind racing beside her, the world was spinning and then she felt the wind knocked out of her. She could feel her skin being ripped from her sides as she fell down onto some more sharp rocks. This time she screamed in agony as the rocks jabbed into her stomach and chest. Everything around her became blurry and the only thing she could hear was the roaring river that began to soak her fur. She took one last gasp then everything went black.

Akarui opened her eyes to see she was in some sort of hollow, it smelled like herbs and rotting wood. Soon she became aware of the pain that was pulsing through her body. Everything hurt and so she decided not to get up. Shutting her eyes she heard two voices one belonging to her mother “ I wonder if she came to get me?” Akarui thought of her sister and the den back home. “Her injuries are bad,but they will heal, she will be able to live. Isn't that good enough for you, aren’t you happy she is alive?” Said a voice she didn't recognize. “That may be true but look at her. She's crippled, covered in pieces of fabric, stitched together like a rag doll.” she heard her mother pause for a moment before she continued “I can't stand to look at her, she's no longer my daughter, I don't want her anymore.” Akarui's mind raced and she forgot the pain. She struggled to stand, stumbling for a few steps before she started to get dizzy and fell over. “Mother, please,...please don't leave me.” She chocked out a little whisper before she drifted back asleep.
