You know, up on stage, it looks like such a simple...almost boring mask. You actually breathed life into it to make it interesting enough to look at for more than a couple of seconds. This goes to prove that sometimes the mind does not allow the eyes to do its job. Case in point: (and this is sort of off-topic but do humor me for a second) I work in the pest control industry and we once had an insect we needed to identify. So under 30x maginfication in our microscope, we were able to determine that it was a 'rice weevil'...but, when I initially saw it, I couldn't get over how utterly beautiful it was! It was a rich reddish-brown color and it had perfectly spaced and sized 'dimples'over the entire exterior surface of its body. That's when I became inclined to believe that in many cases the brain tells the eyes to 'see' things in a certain way so that it can process the what it's own interpretation of it. I think we need to learn to be more 'open minded' about not taking everything we see or hear or even feel to be an absolute. Anyway...thanks for sharing this piece of great art with us and for listening to my ranting..hehe.
Ok you must be pickin' my brain, I just gathered a whole bunch of carnicale masks and was planning on doing them. I know this is phantom of the opera but generally the same idea! lol it's getting scary, first you do the tut and now this. Yikes I can't keep up! Beautiful rendering, nice touches.
