Wonderful tribute and amazing drawing. I first heard of Anzac Day from an Aussie internet friend about 10 yrs ago. I have many Aussie online friends and hope someday to be able to visit them. Also a close frien dof mine from Here, Houston, Tx, emigrated with her family to NZ about 10 yrs ago, would love to see her again. Again, stirring drawing.
A very touching tribute Jay, to the brave souls who gave their lives in what was supposed to be "The War To End All Wars", apparently we have not learned the lessons of their sacrifice to this day. I pray that we will some day.
I was another ignorant Yank until I met my first kiwi buddy nearly a decade ago in InkLink! Who knew I would learn so much about people and cultures and societies from playing a silly online game? ;) Julie, this turned out awesomely, and I know you felt good drawing it. I am impressed! And happy ANZAC Day again! :D
Before this loaded I had decided that I was just going to comment with the poem that you have used. No more words needed to be said. Too many young lives are lost through the stupidity of bad orders. We shall never forget the lives and sacrifices given by our forebears to ensure that we are able to live the life of freedom that we are priveledged to have. Sacrifices that are still being given by our military today. After I have finished my book on the battle of Verdun (WWI) where my great grandfather fought I am going to read about Gallipoli. A marvellous tribute SG, add my prayers and thanks to your special rememberance day.
Lol Fuzzy.. Happy Great Australian Day then Jay :D is there parade, fireworks and all that ?? :) And what did you do with that Olympic Flame in Camberra ?? :P
Well done and what a wonderful tribute as dogskull said, you definitely mastered this one despite anything your hubby says *wink and runs to hide from Mings hubby*
ANZAC Day stands for Australian New Zealand Army Corp
the 25th of April is our commerorative day to honour soldiers fallen or returned. It is held on this day because it the the date that 100's of our troops died heroicly at Gallipoli during WWI following flawed orders from their Brittish commanders. Anzac Spirit of bravery, mateship and sacrifice are honoured on this day. To my way of thinking it is THE most *Australian* day on our calendar. This is a copy of a photo taken last year as a dawn service in a town near here.
