Thanks! I am registered there now and will try it out. What ashame that this wonderful site has to be left behind. I hope it changes and soon before everyone leaves.
I went to the floating ginkgo to see your competion draw Xina. You did a fabulous drawing! You are so talented ...I saw a tutorial there and it was very informational on drawing fur. : )
Call me dumb....but all this has been a tad confusing to me, but after reading leonardo's comments on here, i get it a bit. Is this site gonna just implode and take all our drawings with it, or is it just the people that choose to leave that are gonna suffer that loss? i guess i haven't been around this site long enough to really understand the politics of it all yet. Mostly i don't want to lose my drawings, even though they aren't the finest art around. I did put a lot of hours into some of them. Also, i like the atmosphere here, the friendliness of most of the people..I hate to lose that almost as soon as i arrive. And i'm still not sure if I totally understand the contest for the futurials thing?
Hi Xina, I am already at 2draw and Flying Ginkgo and I tell ya, I am loving every minute of it. It's just too darn bad that all of our complaints have failed miserably and fallen on deaf ears. I just wish that the people looking after the advertisements on this site will at least care to somehow get a hold of Matt and Andrew. This is so much similar to what is happening in Facebook. There is a site there called Graffiti (my space have now the same drawing program) where it has the same similar or somewhat identical the sketchfu drawing program, but the Facebook Graffiti is actually much more flexible in terms of the opacity feature. What this does is it allows every facebook member with artistic abilities to draw on their own Facebook profiles and even better, draw for all of your friend's Graffiti. The best thing about all these are the different Graffiti artist site on Facebook where you get to exhibit all your drawings - it's kinda like 2draw where everyone can visit your Graffiti gallery and see all of your different artworks. The only disappointing thing about this right now is that the actual Graffiti drawing program itself has no save feature, so basically, you either finish what you had started or just leave your computer on and pray hard that your IP server doesn't go down or the Facebook IP doesn't get lost on your router, or simply pray that Graffiti will in fact save your drawing and display it to the intended target. What's worse is that people like the professional, hobbyist and the casual artist alike has been complaining for almost 1 year to have the save feature added. Everytime they send them emails or some kind of signed petitions, these trio of developers wouldn't even respond. And almost usually when they do, it's like we're looking into it. Latest news is that from one of the guys is that they are diligently working and close on having to add the save feature and what more, they are planning to revamp the public gallery and separate the good artist with the real bad ones who just want to put something on their friend's profile. Every real talented individual will now have or be included on a gallery reserved for people who can really draw. This Facebook Graffiti program has gotten so big that it's attracting every talents from every part of the globe and it's paying huge dividend for Facebook and it's developers. It has created a huge community pool filled with talented indivuals that can create all kinds of drawing art media in realism, abstract and modern art. It's free (of course, you have to register in Facebook) and it has become real popular due to all the different websites dedicated to showcase all your works. There must be at least 10 or more websites to showcase your work. The same idea as Sketchfu, but with more than 1 million members on-line looking at your work and complimenting you and wanting to be your friend. Can't be any better than that. Thanks again for trying to stage an FU revolt.
Funny though, Flying Ginkgo has an age-limit of 18 years because the site seems to contain adult material, or something like that. Did say that it was for adults only at least ^^
Seemed like a great site other than that :P (Of course I could just lie about my age, but I don't really feel like it)
Well it seems the campaign to save Sketchfu hasn't worked. We've had no response from Matt'n'Andrew for months. Thanks to everyone who got involved but I can't see it getting any better . . .
I have been drawing at Flying Ginkgo for some time now while making every effort to stir things up here to no avail. Ginkgo is a wonderful site, the owner is an artist herself and very committed to the site. They have a facility to upload the drawings you have done here (or anywhere else) so you won't lose any of your work. I also have an account at 2draw as a few artists from Sketchfu have gone there but Ginkgo is much smaller and friendlier. I'm hoping that if more follow we will be able to hold on to the wonderful community spirit we developed here.
So if you want to have a look for yourself…
